Excise tax, also referred to as personal property tax, is assessed by your local taxing authorities. As the owner of the vehicle, USB Leasing LT is required to pay these taxes on your behalf. In other words, USB Leasing LT pays this tax and passes the cost on to you, the lessee, as per the Taxes, Registration and Titling section of your agreement. This section of the agreement states that you agree to pay all taxes and charges imposed by a government authority in connection with the leased vehicle.
If you’re enrolled in autopay, only the vehicle’s base rent and applicable sales tax will be paid automatically each month. Other charges, such as excise tax, personal property tax, late fees, or tickets, are billed separately. Follow the payment instructions included with your billing statement if you wish to pay by mail. A total loss is considered an early termination of the lease. If the vehicle is deemed a total loss and was insured as per the lease agreement requirements, you can expect the following:

Yes. We’ll contact you a month before the end of your lease to schedule an inspection free of charge. This inspection identifies any damage that may result in charges when the vehicle is returned. If the inspection isn’t completed before the vehicle is returned, subject to any appraisal rights you may have, we’ll conduct an inspection for excess wear after you return the vehicle.
Keep in mind that inspections must be completed by an inspector assigned by U.S. Bank. That means no one at the return location is authorized to conduct the inspection of your vehicle. However, you may choose to have any issues discovered during the inspection repaired by a certified dealership or auto body shop of your choice. If you decide to repair any damages, be sure to keep copies of your receipts in case they’re requested.

Keep in mind that the payoff amount is only valid for the person on the lease. We’re unable to process third-party sales (i.e. family members, friends, or other individuals).
Yes, the vehicle can be traded in at a dealership as part of a purchase or lease of a new vehicle. However, the dealer will need to contact us directly by calling 866-250-3148 for pricing information.
You’ll need an odometer statement and the customer titling instructions to purchase your leased vehicle. These documents should be sent along with the funds to pay off the vehicle. If you’ve already sent the funds, you can email the documents to us at leasematurity@usbank.com.
Your final bill may include a termination fee, excess mileage and wear-and-use charges, as well as any unpaid amounts. These could be payments, citations, taxes, and other miscellaneous charges due. You can expect to receive your final billing statement a few weeks after the vehicle has been returned.
In general, the vehicle should be returned in the same condition it was in at the beginning of the lease. Some minor wear (such as a few small door dings, chips or scratches) is usually acceptable. Excess wear may include items such as dents, cracks in glass, torn upholstery, or poor-quality repairs. Billing statements are automatically printed 15 days prior to the due date. If you return the vehicle before the statement date and maturity date, you can disregard the bill. However, if the vehicle hasn’t been returned by the maturity date, you’re responsible for the amount due. If you have additional questions regarding your statement, call us at 866-250-3147. All automatic payments will be canceled once we confirm receipt of the vehicle. However, you can expedite this process by contacting us at 800-USBANKS (872-2657). We accept relay calls. Keep in mind that it takes three business days to cancel scheduled payments.
